چکیده

We propose a method to estimate the pseudo jet opening half-angle of GRBs using the spectral peak energy (Ep)–peak luminosity relation (so called Yonetoku relation) as well as the Ep–collimation-corrected γ-ray energy relation (so called Ghirlanda relation). For bursts with known jet break times and redshifts, we compared the pseudo jet opening half-angle with the standard one and found that the differences are within a factor 2. We apply the method to 689 long GRBS. We found that the distribution function of the pseudo jet opening half-angle obeys f(θj) ∝ θ −2.2±0.2 j with possible cutoffs for θj < 0.04 and θj > 0.3 although the log-normal fit is also possible. θ −2 distribution is compatible with the structured jet model. From the distribution function we found that the beaming correction for the rate of GRBs is ∼ 340, which means ∼ 10 yr galaxy or only one in 10 type Ib/c supernovae. We also found the evolution of the distribution function as a function of the redshift.

CONSTRAINING THE STRUCTURE OF GRB JETS THROUGH THE logN − logS DISTRIBUTION

A general formalism is developed for calculating the luminosity function and the expected number N of observed GRBs above a peak photon flux S for an arbitrary GRB jet structure. This formalism directly provides the true GRB rate for any jet model, instead of first calculating the GRB rate assuming isotropic emission and then introducing a ‘correction factor’ to account for effects of the GRB j...

Gamma-ray Burst Beaming: a Universal Configuration with a Standard Energy Reservoir?

We consider a gamma-ray burst (GRB) model based on an anisotropic fireball with an axisymmetric energy distribution of the form ǫ(θ) ∝ θ, and allow for the observer’s viewing direction being at an arbitrary angle θv with respect to the jet axis. This model can reproduce the key features expected from the conventional on-axis uniform jet models, with the novelty that the achromatic break time in...

The Jet Angular Profile and the Afterglow Light Curves

We investigate how the angular structure of GRB jets effects the afterglow light curves at different viewing angles, θv, from the jet symmetry axis. A numerical hydrodynamical modeling for the evolution of a relativistic collimated outflow, as it interacts with the surrounding medium, is carried out, and compared to two simple models that make opposite and extreme assumptions for the degree of ...

Simulations of ultrarelativistic magnetodynamic jets from gamma-ray burst engines

Long-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) require an engine capable of driving a jet of plasma to ultrarelativistic bulk Lorentz factors of up to several hundred and into narrow opening angles of a few degrees. We use global axisymmetric stationary solutions of magnetically dominated (force-free) ultrarelativistic jets to test whether the popular magnetic-driving paradigm can generate the required ...

Testing the Predictions of the Universal Structured GRB Jet Model

The two leading models for the structure of GRB jets are the uniform jet model and the universal structured jet (USJ) model. In the latter, all GRB jets are intrinsically identical and the energy per solid angle drops as the inverse square of the angle from the jet axis. The simplicity of the USJ model gives it a strong predictive power, including a specific prediction for the observed GRB dist...
